LANTERNS FOR PEACE

Please Join Us Each Year on August 6

Pinafore Park near North Pavilion

St. Thomas, Ontario

5:30-6:30 – Pot Luck Supper, bring your own plates etc.

     Dusk – Prayers for Peace

-Lanterns on the water, bring a blanket or lawn chair

On August 6, 1945 an atomic bomb was dropped over Hiroshima. On
August 9, an atomic bomb was dropped over Nagasaki. Hundreds of
thousands of people died as a result. Our remembrance of these days
will be marked on Saturday, August 6 by floating lanterns on Pinafore
Lake (Pinafore Park, St. Thomas) at dusk.

The tissue paper covers for the lanterns will be made, and the
lanterns will be constructed at the pavilion from 2:30-5:00. The
community will be invited to participate in this activity.

A potluck picnic supper will begin at 6:00 pm. Please come out and
bring the entire family. There will be time, after supper, for lots of
fun and games for young and old alike!

The experience of watching the lanterns float out across the pond at
dusk
is not to be missed. Peace-full.

Julie would love to have volunteers to assist with this activity. Help is needed for the afternoon activity,

for the potluck supper set-up & clean-up, and for the lantern-floating ceremony.
